چکیده

Abstract Background Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that regulates calcium and phosphorous homeostasis to maintain healthy mineralized skeleton. It can also influence immune responses has immunomodulatory properties. receptor (VDR) nuclear mediates the activities of hormonal form D. VDR polymorphisms alter immunity susceptibility infections by modulating expression activity. This study aimed investigate levels serum as well four polymorphisms: FokI, BsmI, ApaI, TaqI in fifty children admitted intensive care unit (ICU) with diagnosis sepsis one-hundred age- sex-matched children. Methods were measured serum, both patients controls, using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) approach. studied groups specific restriction enzymes. Results low controls. Moreover, unaffected polymorphisms, their distribution was similar groups. Neither need for mechanical ventilation or inotropic treatment nor outcome impacted polymorphisms. Conclusion In pediatric ICU, neither associated sepsis. Further larger studies including different types are recommended.

Polymorphisms within Exon 9, But Not Intron 8, of the Vitamin D Receptor Gene Are Associated with Asthma

Objective(s) Deregulation of the immune system through allied factors and cytokine responses are thought to be important contributors to the pathogenesis of asthma. Vitamin D3 and its nuclear receptor appear to be factors that maybe involved in regulating immune responses during the progression of asthma. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between polymorphisms in intron ...

Vitamin D deficiency in critically ill children.

OBJECTIVE Vitamin D influences cardiovascular and immune function. We aimed to establish the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in critically ill children and identify factors influencing admission 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25(OH)D) levels. We hypothesized that levels would be lower with increased illness severity and in children with serious infections. METHODS Participants were 511 severely or ...

Vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms are associated with adiposity phenotypes.

BACKGROUND Emerging data suggest a role for the vitamin D receptor (VDR) in lipogenesis and adipocyte differentiation. OBJECTIVE Our objective was to evaluate the association of VDR gene variants and adiposity phenotypes in an epidemiologic study. DESIGN In a sample of 1773 healthy female adults recruited from western New York, we tested for the association of 14 VDR single nucleotide polym...

Is Vitamin D Insufficiency Associated with Mortality of Critically Ill Patients?

Objective. To evaluate the vitamin D status of our critically ill patients and its relevance to mortality. Patients and Methods. We performed a prospective observational study in the medical intensive care unit of a university hospital between October 2009 and March 2011. Vitamin D levels were measured and insufficiency was defined as <20 ng/mL. Results. Two hundred and one patients were includ...
